Det. Mac Taylor
First Grade Detective Mac Taylor heads the New York City Crime Lab, conducting investigations according to Veneziano's Theory: everything is connected!
Originally from Chicago, Mac served his Country as a decorated Marine Officer. After serving he moved to New York City. Ascending through NYPD, he ultimately found a home in the Crime Scene Investigation Division!
We find out in Season 3 that Mac was married. Her name was Claire and she was killed on 9-11-01.
Mac expects his team to be honest with him and not to lie to him. If they are not honest with him, then he can not have their back when and if heat from the department brass pops up.
[Stella and Mac stare at the flattened victim.]
Stella Bonasera: I'm going to call Hawkes.
Mac Taylor: Tell him to bring a spatula.
[Hawkes is eating in the break room]
Mac: You on break?
Hawkes: I'm just taking five minutes to eat. That's okay, isn't it?
Mac: Eating is frowned upon, Hawkes. (Hawkes moves to put everything away) I'm kidding.
