Adam is a jack-of-all-trades lab tech originally from Phoenix, Arizona. His specialty is trace evidence. He sometimes accompanies the CSIs to crime scenes to aid in reconstruction or evidence collection. Adam has a severe dislike of snow and cold weather ("Obsession"); he remarked that because he was from Phoenix, he considered temperatures below 85°F cold. He admits during
"Some Buried Bones" that "his father was a bully" after he recognizes a suspect's instinctual flinch as shying from an anticipated strike, which seems to hint that Adam himself had been abused as a child. He also ran a PCR test on Stella's blood to determine if she had contracted HIV from a piece of HIV infected glass at a crime scene that she had accidentally cut herself on.
